In terms of ownership, handling and care, lower generation Savannah cats differ very little from other pedigree cats. They can be kept either in a house or a generous apartment. From the fifth generation onwards, Savannah cats as ‘normal’ pedigree cats, which are also allowed to be given a free run.
Higher generations stand out through their great desire for exercise and a pronounced hunting instinct. These cats should also be given access to an outdoor enclosure or a secured garden or at least a large, secure balcony with sufficient climbing possibilities. Hybrid cats come under the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES), which has to be taken into account when they are crossing borders.
